Thought
I am reading a chapter from a book for my life group tonight.
"Sometimes, in his infinite wisdom, God know that there are things to be accomplished in our character that can be brought only through suffering."

I would have to agree cause God doesn't seem to like using our strengths, but our weaknesses. Take Job. Technically Satan did all those things to him but with God's permission because He knew that Job would stay true to Him. By all the suffering Job went through that God allowed, he was seen as a great man of God. The same can be said for David, Moses and obviously Jesus, although He's in a different catagory.
ReplyDeleteWell it makes perfect logical sense, as we see in our surroundings, character is built and exsposed in hardship. Romans 5:1-5
ReplyDelete"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."
By studying the character of others, putting stress on them is sometimes the only way to get them distracted enough to remove the mask that they so dilligently wear. Once removed, many things can happen depending on who they are and how they had reacted.
I think the only way to change or encourage growth in positive character is to read, study and to act on the moral guidelines given to us by God. Practice is the most effecive way to start a habbit, and in that habbit, character is revealed unwillingly. (E.G. Someone 'rubs you the wrong way' (Maturity please) and your first immediate actions, thoughts and words.).
The most important thing though for effective change is self control, we need to carefully think our actions through without acting solely on impulse, because it's the first step to anywhere.
